SAE Aero Design '26
A journey of innovation, precision, and teamwork that earned Team Vortex a place among the Top 16 teams in the world.

The Challenge
SAE Aero Design is an international aerospace engineering competition where student teams are challenged to design, build, and operate aircraft around a demanding set of technical requirements. Success goes beyond simply getting an aircraft into the air—it requires careful integration of aerodynamics, structures, materials, avionics, control systems, manufacturing, and operational strategy.

75 Teams.
One Global Stage.
In April 2026, Team Vortex proudly represented VIT Bhopal University at the SAE Aero Design International Competition in Fort Worth, Texas, marking the University’s first-ever participation in an international aerospace competition. Competing on a global stage alongside teams from universities across the world, the experience was a defining milestone for Team Vortex and VIT Bhopal alike. From months of engineering, testing, and preparation to experiencing an international competition environment firsthand, the journey pushed the team to apply its skills beyond the classroom and represent the University on a global platform. The experience culminated in a strong international performance, achieving the following results:

From Runway to Flight
Experience Team Vortex at the SAE Aero Design International Competition 2026 in Fort Worth, Texas — where months of engineering, testing, and teamwork came together on the runway. Witness our aircraft take flight as we represented VIT Bhopal University on the international stage.

Built by a Team
No aircraft reaches the runway alone.

What SAE Taught Us
SAE Aero Design reinforced the importance of iteration, documentation, reliability, communication, and teamwork. It taught us it is about understanding why it works, knowing its limitations, and being prepared when reality challenges the design.
Beyond the Rankings
The competition was more than a ranking. It was an opportunity to experience engineering at an international level, work under real constraints, learn from teams across the world, and understand what it takes to transform an ambitious idea into a functioning aerospace system.
Beyond the Runway
“The important thing is to never stop questioning.”
— Albert Einstein
Our journey to Fort Worth was a chance to step beyond the familiar and experience engineering on a truly international stage. Representing VIT Bhopal in the USA, working alongside teams from different parts of the world, and seeing our months of preparation come together in a real competition environment gave us a perspective that cannot be gained inside a classroom alone. It challenged us to adapt, perform under pressure, and understand what it truly means to build and compete at a global level.
“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.”
— Robert Collier
The experience was built long before we reached the competition field. Every design iteration, test flight, technical discussion, setback, and late-night effort contributed to the final journey. Being VIT Bhopal’s first-ever team to compete in an international competition made the experience even more meaningful—not simply because of the result, but because it opened a path for future teams to dream bigger, compete farther, and take their engineering to the world.
